Crash in Adrian Township Leaves Four Dead

two sedans with front end damage due to a head on car crash
A fatal crash occurred on the evening of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the intersection of Tipton Highway and Shepherd Road in Adrian Township, just north of Adrian, Michigan. The accident, which involved a 2019 Chevy Traverse and a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, occurred when the driver of the Cherokee failed to stop at a stop sign. The Cherokee collided with the Traverse, causing both vehicles to veer off the road and into a farm field. When emergency services arrived at the scene at 6:43 PM, they pronounced all four occupants deceased.

Next Steps After a Fatal Car Accident in Michigan

After a fatal car accident, the decedent’s family should promptly reach out to a wrongful death attorney who can help navigate the claims process for compensation. They’ll need to contact the decedent’s insurance provider to seek no-fault benefits for medical bills, funeral expenses, and other damages. Insurance adjusters are likely to offer a settlement that falls short of what the family is entitled to, so having legal representation is crucial to prevent being pressured into accepting a low offer.

Who Can Make a Claim on Behalf of the Deceased?

Michigan law specifies who is eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit or make insurance claims on behalf of a deceased individual, referred to as the decedent’s personal representative. The following individuals may serve in this role:
  • The decedent’s surviving spouse.
  • Adult children or other descendants of the decedent, excluding minor children.
  • Parents or grandparents of the decedent.
  • Siblings of the decedent.
